About THE POWER OF 2
The SCOTT family of New Zealand and the FOREMAN family of Australia were brought together by the
marriage of Paul SCOTT and Margaret FOREMAN in 1963. In fact, the roots of both families trace back
to the British Isles. When building a family tree, one always hopes for a relative who is royalty or
perhaps a pirate. Our family tree tends to be rather more ordinary, as evidenced by the addresses
'Lower Todholes' and 'Littleworth Common'! However, I have been quite moved by the hard times
experienced by some of our forebears, and the great contributions some of them have made, especially
in the settlement of the new colonies Down Under.
The name of this family tree website comes from
+ a reference to Bryce Courtney's book 'The Power of One' with the thought that one person (or
perhaps two) have the power to change the world for the better;
+ the fact known to all genealogists that the numbers of ancestors form the sequence 2, 4, 8, ... ;
+ an allusion to my career and life long interest in mathematics.
As well as the material presented here, I have in my possession copies of some 80 certificates (birth,
baptism, marriage and death), extensive notes on some family members, and many other photos.
A family tree is always a work in progress. I would be delighted to receive any suggestions, corrections
or new information. If you have a better photograph of a family member, please send a copy.
I hope you enjoy our family tree.
Anyone with a legitimate interest in our family tree may get the Security Access Code from me by emailing
